 i'm no m4m...
mary I think observed...that if option volume exceeds open interest prior to earnings that is a powerful indication to the direction of the earnings result pos/neg
however using ESRX option action on 2/24 as an example the mar80 puts vol>oi but the it was a sale
 我想我說話太多必須加大工作力度

Ok Ok OK! i seem to be getting the idea. "but the it was a sale"------>?how did you know this info? (-.-)

 Mystiq:
 THAT'S THE CATCH.
As Straken has posted numerous times, you MUST use an options scanner.
All these websites that say, "higher than normal call volumes" don't mean sh*++!
"Higher than normal call volume" could mean calls SOLD, not bought ... which would mean the stock is going DOWN.
I wiped out my OptionsHouse account last year with some AIG calls because the "call volume was higher than normal".
AIG CRASHED! The "call volume" ... represented calls SOLD!!
Only an option scanner can tell you if the volume is on the bid side or ask side.
 Straken uses "GET" by Esignal.
A new scanner just came out called "LiveVol".
 See the demo.

 edit:
simplified ... if I posted, "OMG!! STEC volume 10X higher than normal" .... would you buy STEC?
 Of course not!
Not until you've determined if that "10X higher" is on the buy side or the sell side.
 ;>)

"but the it was a sale" ...that line should have said "but it was a sale"

karennma hit the nail on the head as to where the info came from...option scanner

...livevol has unpackaged block trade data back to 2 years, watch their short video, karennma
posted the link above (pay attention after 9th minute into video)

it seems to simple and obvious when you have the right tools and right teacher
